From the beginning, we have been evaluating plants from a wide range of origins to see what grows best under certain conditions - mostly in the northeastern United States. Many species from China and Russia are very new to us and little guideline informat ion is available. Some of our specific efforts deal with: finding a Noble fir adaptable to mid west/northeast growing conditions; finding a faster growing subalpine fir; finding disease resistant Douglas fir; plus many evaluations of various conifers to soils and sites. Fall color retention, needle retention in a house, and cleanliness of tree types suitable for a Christmas tree are a few more of our objectives.

Recognition and selection on the the part of seed collectors has been a major step to producing higher quality trees. Several European countries have had lengthly programs for three improvement (ie. France, Denmark, England, etc.). Noble fir from select o rigins in Denmark and Nordmann fir from French seen orchards may very well fit our needs here, according to early observations. The conifer plants we offer are native to many parts of the world, including China, Russia, and Japan. Some, such as the Nordmann fir, will be the new generation of Christmas trees.
