"Grand Donnie" Fir

This is the Arboretum's name for the tree which looks like a Grand Fir in form but has a silver thread on the top of the leaf. It gives the tree a slight bluish "bloom." They are thought to be a cross pollination of the Subalpine Fir and Grand Fir which are found in Idaho. When observed in the morning dew, the tree looks like crystal.

Fraser Compacta Fir

This Fraser Fir, believed to be a "witch's broom," was found accidentally in a grove of Frasers being cultured for sale as Christmas trees. It is twenty-seven years old and is being propagated by cuttings, grafted on Canaan fir root stock. These trees may, in the future, be available.
