Springhouse
Site
This site has ben public domain since the 1840's.
It is believed to have been a stop on the stagecoach
trail which ran to West Valley, New York. A Springhouse
is to be built with a garden area to beautify
the site.
Nursery and Transplant Areas
Greenhouse grown plants , or plugs, are transplanted and usually allowed
to grow two years to produce a twelve to sixteen foot plant. these are then filed
planted or potted. In the nursery image above, Teen Challenge of Buffalo is hard
at work. Approximately 15, 000 plants are being planted by hand.
Propagation
In keeping with the Arboretum's objectives, rare and
unusual conifers and other plant material have been gathered over the past twenty
years, with propagation yearly by Treehaven Evergreen Nursery in Elma, N.Y. Nursery
areas have now been established at the Arboretum in the Town of Yorkshire. The
nursery areas have over 100,000 transplants, including ornamentals. Treehaven
will continue to offfer seedlings and transplants to Christmas tree growers,
botanidal Gardens, nursseries, Universities and collectors. We will continue
to import seed and propagate for the forseeable future.
Lake
As of this time, a lake is being built for irragation
as well as recreation.
Areas in the vicinity will be planted with various tree
types for long term propagation as well as will garden and propagation areas.
Volunteers are welcome to participate and become a member of the Arboretum on
Blue Hill.
