The mission at the Arboretum
on Blue Hill is to preserve the true firs,
(genus alies), especially non-native varieties
with emphasis on China. Other conifers
with interesting characteristics are also
under cultivation here. The arboretum supports
the effort of restoring the Willomi Pine
(Australia) and the Dawn Redwood (China),
as well as others species including some
classified as endangered. All trees mentioned
are being preserved for long-term propagation.
